Johanna Stenzel
Johanna Stenzel wurde 1989 in Dresden geboren und studierte von 2012 bis 2019 Bühnen- und Kostümbild an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart. Bereits im Rahmen des Studiums entstanden mehrere Arbeiten an der Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg und der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, von denen eine zum Körber Studio Junge Regie und eine zum Radikal Jung eingeladen waren (Inszenierung: Wilke Weermann).
Als selbstständige Bühnen- und Kostümbildnerin arbeitet sie u. a. am Staatstheater Stuttgart, an der Volksbühne Berlin und am Schauspiel Leipzig. Es verbindet sie eine regelmäßige Zusammenarbeit mit den Regisseur*innen Wilke Weermann, Pınar Karabulut und Nuran David Calis. Die Inszenierung «Endstation Sehnsucht» am Volkstheater Wien (Regie: Pınar Karabulut), bei der sie das Kostümbild gestaltete, wurde in zwei Kategorien für den Nestroy-Preis 2019 nominiert.
Ihr Kostümbild für die Inszenierung «Die Hand ist ein einsamer Jäger» (Inszenierung: Pınar Karabulut) wurde in der Theater heute Kritiker*innen Umfrage unter den Höhepunkten der Saison 2019/2020 genannt.

The director Elsa-Sophie Jach, who recently made her debut at the Residenztheater with her production of Herbert Achternbusch’s «Heart of Glass», brings the outrageous love poetry of «Europe’s first poet» to new life. Known for a directing style characterised by precise language and strong visuals, she hunts down the forgotten remains of Sappho’s poems, condenses them into a chorus and, on a tour through the literary canon together with the Munich techno live band SLATEC, she exposes the systematic erasure of the female voice, its silencing and the need for it to empower itself.
